  6. Finally, Version 1.0 release of Exoticons is here.

  8. Exoticons currently comes in 2 flavours, NewIcons and an OS3.5/3.9 version.
  9. This is the OS3.5/3.9 version.

  11. Exoticons consists of 1500 icons created from high quality box scans of
  12. Amiga games. Certainly, it must be the largest game icon collection
  13. currently available for the Amiga. The Original scans and information can
  14. be found at the ExoticA website - http://exotica.fix.no.
  15. (Although at the time of writing this only 1100 of the images are available
  16. for download at the site).

  18. I recommend you use Exoticons with the excellent WHDLOAD
  19. (http://www.whdload.org) - a great AmigaOS friendly game install package.

  21. They also can be used with other HD install systems such as JST
  22. (http://jffabre.free.fr/amiga/patches.html).

  24. Each icon is 128 colours and has its own palette meaning they will probably
  25. not look good if you don't have many free pens (aga) or are viewing many
  26. on screen at the same time. The OS3.5/3.9 icons are 128x128 pixels in size.
  27. If you are using Scalos with the latest beta Icon System and a graphics card,
  28. you can enjoy the collection even more, as it does not suffer from sharing pens
  29. between icons.

  32. Information Text and a great little intro to watch to introduce the icons.

  47. ImageMagick - Excellent open source image manipulation program, that
  48.               I used for the scaling and colour reduction.
  49. Image2Icon  - Great program from Stephan Rupprecht that was used for the
  50.               actual icon creation from the scaled scans.
  51. Perl        - For the image conversion scripting.
  52.  
  53. TVPaint, PPaint, Photogenics and IconEdit were also used for much of the
  54. graphic work.
